ENJOY MURANO: BROOCHES

Quattrocchi

“Quattrocchi” brooches are made from unusual combinations of Murano glassmaking debris collected from the island's beaches.

Glasswork is a typical and expensive production on the island of Murano, of which many traces remain in the sea and along the beaches.
Master glassmakers are very jealous of their materials and are therefore more likely to throw them away than to donate them to someone.
By collecting this debris, a valuable material is reused and the beaches are freed from this waste.

The result is precious and recycled glass brooches, unique pieces in terms of history, shape and workmanship.

The name “Quattrocchi” (Four Eyes) refers to the fact that the magical beings created from the debris seem to have many eyes,
thanks to the many “Murrine” decorating them.
The “Murrine” are special elements of glasswork in Murano, they are obtained thanks to a particular process that consists in
melting a bundle of coloured glass canes, arranged to form a pattern, this bundle is stretched until long tubes with the desired diameter are obtained.
After cooling, the tube is hand-cut into tiny disc-shaped slices to be used in imaginative compositions.
